Is there such a thing as a hangover IV drip at home in Dubai?

Short answer

What can be arranged in Dubai is a rehydration drip for the morning after a late night, not a remedy that makes a hangover vanish. A nurse from a DHA-licensed partner clinic can give fluids, sometimes with vitamins, at your home or hotel, but only if you are fully alert, have stopped drinking and are not seriously unwell. Water, food, sleep and time do most of the recovering.

Key points

  • The drip replaces lost fluid; it does not remove alcohol or reverse its effects.
  • No drip is started while someone is still drinking or is not fully alert.
  • Suspected alcohol poisoning is an emergency: call 998 for an ambulance, or 999.
  • Any painkillers taken overnight must be declared, because doubling up on paracetamol is dangerous.
  • Our After a late night drip page describes the visit in full.

What the drip can and cannot do

A long night can leave you short of fluid, all the more so in Dubai’s heat, and fluids given into a vein may ease thirst, light-headedness and a parched mouth. Some clinics add B vitamins, though evidence that they speed recovery is thin. The drip does not clear alcohol from the blood any faster, protect the liver or make it safe to drive. Oral rehydration salts, water and a light meal remain sensible first steps.

When the nurse will refuse, and when to call 998

The nurse will not begin if the person is still drinking, slurring, drowsy, unsteady or unable to answer health questions clearly. Vomiting that will not stop, confusion, seizures, slow or irregular breathing, cold or bluish skin, or being hard to wake can all signal alcohol poisoning. That needs an ambulance on 998, or 999, not a home visit. Turn the person onto their side and stay with them until help arrives.

If you still want a rehydration visit

Message us once you are awake and thinking clearly, and answer the health questions yourself; a friend cannot consent on your behalf. Be honest about what you drank, ate and took, including sleeping tablets or pain relief. The clinician may approve plain fluids, decline the request or suggest a doctor instead. The After a late night drip page explains what the nurse does, how long it takes and the aftercare advice.

Questions people ask

Will a drip let me drive or go to work sooner?

No. Fluids do not lower the amount of alcohol in your blood, and UAE law does not tolerate driving after drinking. Do not get behind the wheel until you are sure you are completely clear, which takes time rather than treatment. If you feel ill enough to want a drip, consider whether work should wait too.

How often can I book this?

It is meant for an occasional situation, not a routine. If you find yourself wanting a drip after most weekends, the clinician may decline and recommend a conversation with a doctor. A GP can talk through drinking patterns in confidence and explain the support available in the UAE, without judgement.

Can the nurse give something for nausea?

Only if a clinician prescribes it after hearing your symptoms, and never by default. Mild queasiness often settles with small, frequent sips of water or oral rehydration solution. Persistent or violent vomiting, or vomit containing blood, calls for hospital assessment rather than medicine in a home drip.
