Biotin Injection at Home

Also called: vitamin B7 shot · vitamin H injection · biotin booster

A biotin shot is an intramuscular injection of vitamin B7, given by a licensed partner-clinic nurse at your home, hotel or office. People usually ask about it for hair or nails, yet evidence of benefit in those who are not deficient is limited. Biotin can distort several laboratory tests, so you must declare it before any blood draw.

What is usually in the bag

  • Biotin (vitamin B7)

A water-soluble B vitamin involved in how the body handles fats, carbohydrates and protein. True deficiency is uncommon in people who eat a varied diet.

  • Sterile liquid base

The biotin is dissolved in a small volume of sterile water or saline that is suitable for injection into muscle.

  • Other B vitamins (some clinics)

A few clinics pair biotin with dexpanthenol (B5) or a B-complex in one syringe. The clinician decides whether to combine or keep it single.

Biotin content, and whether it comes paired with other B vitamins, differ between partner clinics. Some only offer it as an add-on to a hair-and-nails drip, so ask on WhatsApp what the clinic stocks.

Who tends to book it

  • People noticing more hair on the pillow, or nails that split and peel, often ask about biotin after seeing it advertised online.
  • Clients already booking a hair-and-nails drip sometimes want a biotin injection added within the same appointment.
  • Some adults with diagnosed biotin deficiency, or on long-term medicines that may lower it, such as certain anti-seizure drugs, are advised by their doctor to supplement and ask whether an injection is possible.
  • Those who dislike swallowing large daily capsules occasionally want to know whether an occasional shot could replace them.

Check with a doctor first

  • Anyone with a known allergy to biotin or to any ingredient in the product the clinic uses.
  • People with a bleeding disorder or on anticoagulants, unless the clinician agrees that an injection into muscle is safe for them.
  • Anyone with a blood test coming up, particularly thyroid hormones, troponin or other hormone panels, who has not told the lab and their doctor about biotin.
  • People with sudden, patchy or heavy hair loss, or a red, scaly or painful scalp, who should see a dermatologist before any supplement.
  • Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, unless their own doctor has recommended it.

How the visit goes

  1. The nurse asks why you want biotin, how long the hair or nail changes have been happening, and whether any blood tests are planned in the coming days. That last question is not a formality; it protects the accuracy of your results.

  2. The injection usually goes into the upper arm or the buttock muscle after the skin is cleaned. The volume is small, so it is over quickly. If it accompanies a drip, it is still given into the muscle, separately from the bag.

  3. Before leaving, the nurse puts the date and dose in your aftercare message, so you can show it to a laboratory or doctor later. Mild soreness at the site is common; spreading redness, heat or swelling should be reported.

How long it takes

As a standalone visit, expect around 15 to 20 minutes for the questions, the injection and a short wait afterwards. Added to a drip, it lengthens the appointment by only a few minutes. Visits take longer when the clinician wants to review your medicines or photos of the hair loss first.

How often

No agreed injection schedule exists for biotin in people who are not deficient, and because hair and nails grow slowly, any change takes months to show. The clinician decides whether repeat shots make sense. If hair loss is sudden, patchy or worsening, or nails change colour or shape, a dermatologist is a better next step than more boosters.

What shapes the price

  • Standalone shot or add-on to another drip
  • Biotin alone or combined with other B vitamins
  • Whether a clinician review of medicines comes first
  • Emirate and distance from the partner clinic
  • Out-of-hours or same-day timing

The UAE angle

Hair shedding is a frequent topic among UAE residents, who often blame desalinated water, strong sun or air-conditioning. Those factors may change how hair feels, but persistent loss usually has a medical cause, such as thyroid problems, low iron, hormonal changes or a recent illness. Dermatologists practise in every emirate, and a few blood tests can point to the reason. If you take biotin in any form, mention it when those tests are booked, because many labs use test methods that high biotin levels can upset.

Who may give an IV drip in the UAE

In the UAE an IV drip is a medical procedure, not a beauty treatment. It is given by clinicians licensed for it, working under a licensed health facility, after an assessment. Which authority licenses them depends on where the visit happens.

We pass bookings only to partner clinics licensed for the emirate of your visit. You are always welcome to ask the nurse for their name and licence details.

Questions people ask

Why does biotin matter for blood tests?

Many laboratory tests rely on a biotin-based chemical reaction. High biotin in your blood can make results read falsely high or low, including thyroid tests and troponin, a marker used to check for heart attacks. That can lead to a wrong diagnosis. Tell your doctor and the lab about any biotin, and ask how long to pause it before testing.

Will a biotin shot stop my hair falling out?

We cannot promise that, and evidence that extra biotin helps hair in people who are not deficient is weak. Hair loss has many causes, from iron or thyroid problems to stress, genetics and autoimmune conditions. A dermatologist can examine your scalp, order the right tests and recommend treatment that fits the actual cause.

Are biotin capsules a reasonable alternative?

For many people, yes, and a varied diet with eggs, nuts, seeds and legumes already covers normal needs. Capsules raise the same lab-test concern, often at higher doses than a single injection contains. A pharmacist can advise on a sensible dose and on when to stop before a blood test.

Can I add a biotin injection when I book another drip?

Often, yes. Mention it on WhatsApp when you request the main drip, so the partner clinic can confirm the nurse brings it. The clinician checks the combination suits you, and the nurse gives the biotin as a separate injection into a muscle. It adds only a few minutes to the visit.
